Burn Evaluation and Care for Emergency Responders Course

Course Description:
This 8 hour course is intended for first responders and receivers providers including firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and nurses who would be the first to treat burn victims. The Burn Evaluation and Care for Emergency Responders Course, adapted from the American Burn Association materials and trainings, introduces information relevant to the care of casualties from burn injuries.

- Describe the epidemiological characteristics of burn incidents in the United States.
- Describe the mechanism of different types and degrees of burn injuries.
- Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of thermal injuries.
- Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of electrical injuries.
- Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of chemical injuries.
- Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of smoke inhalation.
- Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of radiation burns.
This course is offered free of charge, but pre-registration is required.
Nursing CEU’s will be available (7.2 contact hours)
The Alabama Department of Public Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The Alabama Department of Public Health is also approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) to provide continuing education for nurses (ABN provider number expires on December 5, 2010).
Nurses must present their license for CE to be awarded.
