Burn Evaluation and Care for Medical Personnel Course

Course Description:
This 5 hour course is intended for Medical Personnel who would be the first to treat burn victims. The Burn Evaluation and Care for Medical Personnel Course, adapted from the American Burn Association materials and trainings, introduces information relevant to the care of casualties from burn injuries.
Course Objectives:
At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:
⇒ Describe the epidemiological characteristics of burn incidents in the United States.
⇒ Describe the mechanism of different types and degrees of burn injuries.
⇒ Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of thermal injuries.
⇒ Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of electrical injuries.
⇒ Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of chemical injuries.
⇒ Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of smoke inhalation.
⇒ Discuss the evaluation, triage and initial management of radiation burns.
CME CREDITS ARE AVAILABLE:
The University Of Alabama School Of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Alabama School of medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
* The Board of Nursing has specified that selected categories of courses or activities which have undergone appropriate review by other State regulatory agencies and professions are acceptable.
