Addressing the Needs of People with Disabilities and the Elderly in Emergencies & Disasters
August 27-28, 2007, Birmingham, Alabama
The Alabama Department of Public Health and the South Central Center for Public Health Preparedness (SCCPHP) partnered to plan and host a conference that focused on the needs of people with disabilities and the elderly before, during, and after emergencies. The purpose of the conference was to provide emergency preparedness training specifically related to people with disabilities and the elderly. In addition to raising awareness to the special needs of these specific populations during and after emergencies, the conference focused on emergency and disaster planning at the individual, family, and agency levels.
